On Monday, Colin & Lizelle were back at work so I headed out for the day. I took the train down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, well ... most of the way. The last bit of the trip/line was closed due to a train accident that had happened in early June.
There was a bus service for the rest of the train journey route, but I wasn't able to get on the 1st one and looked like I may have to wait around an hour for the next. Thankfully the people there let another different bus take a load of people and I got on that. I wasn't able to get a seat so had over an hour standing to get there.
I had got info from Lizelle on a hike I had planned so headed out to find that. Seemed I was the only person heading in that direction. Missed the one turning and had to double back after going up a bit hill (you can see that on the bottom of the Strava map), oh well, normal story hey.

The hike was up a mountain called Wank (pronounced Vunk), but needless to say ... I took many photos of the sign posts. I knew about the area before I left for my travels and had always planned to do that photo op, just cause ... well I'm a kid and it is funny.
Got to the one mountain hut but it was closed (they often are on certain days of the week, mostly Monday I gather), thankfully I had my own food and water I had taken with. I then headed on higher, I was trying to get to the middle cable station and the plan was then to maybe take the cable car to the top and look round there and then take it all the way back down. By this time it was about 1:30pm and I was running out of energy so I laughed off going all the way up to either cable station and just did a loop and headed back down.
I met up with a UK couple, who were there on their honeymoon, who I walked with for a while, down to the bottom cable station. Saw this cool ropes type obstacle course which must be good to do as a team building thing. Took a few more photos down at the Wankbahn and then headed back towards Garmish town.
Bought something to eat from the station shop and waited for the bus to take us back to the train station. This time I got on early and got a seat so was much better heading back. There were quite a few quite long tunnels on the way back which were a bit novel.
