Innsbruck to Jenbach (train) & Ride around Achensee (Ride Day 6)

I left Innsbruck just after 8:30am and headed to the station. The plan was always to take the train from Innsbruck to Jenbach as I wanted to base myself there and then go and cycle around the Achensee area. I got my ticket from the info center and then headed to the platform. I got there just as the 08:50 train was about to leave, so opened the door and jumped in the bike carriage. Turns out it was just about to leave, so the conductor dude kinda told me off for holding up the train by 1 min and if everyone did that at each stop by the time they got to Salzburg (where the train was headed to) they would be 15min late. Well if you don't want me to get on lock the doors, which is what others said as well. I was very apologetic and said I didn't know how the trains worked etc. When I got off at Jenbach it was the time it should have got there and also when I was leaving I saw it sit there for a good 4 minutes, so what was all the fuss about? I found it "amusing".

Headed up to my hotel and asked if I could leave my bag there while I went to Achensee, the reception wasn't open but a lady who worked there said to just leave it in the one dining room, which I did and was fine.

I then headed off on my ride to Achensee. The first bit was nice and flat then it ramped up quite a bit ... OK ... that was a bit steep ... no ... it was just getting started. It got WAY worse and on gravel. I guess was maybe 1km on tar then 4km on gravel. Those bits were about 5km in total at an average gradient of about 10%. Super tough going. I think it took me about 1.5hrs to do that 1st stretch alone.

Another rest stop

Once I got up to the top it was a slight bit of a downhill to the lake itself. It was well worth the effort as it was stunning there. I first went round the left side of the lake where I knew there was a viewing tower.

Went about as far as I could ride that way round then backtracked and went along the other shore all the way to the other end of the lake. Was a super cool ride. Was nice seeing all the water sports going on and people having a great time on the lake shore. It was a really nice day.

The following video shows some of the area.

I went back down mostly the same way and was swearing at the road for being so horrible to be on the way up. I think I had my brakes on all the way down it was so steep and couldn't go quicker and then stop as there was loose gravel. I took a slightly steeper but more direct way back down to Jenbach vs going back via Weising, which was fine for downhill. Got back to the hotel at about 17:00 and then changed and went to find food and take a few photos around town.

I checked out a few restaurants but nothing really grabbed me/were that great prices, so I headed to find the Spar. Found that quickly and got myself a Steigl and 2 rolls and a large chicken schnitzel and some cheese and mayo. If you take your rolls to the deli type counter they make them up into the rolls for you so I didn't have to do that. The large chicken schnitzel piece was enough to make 2 rolls. Was a nice tasty dinner. Like with the breakfast foods, I was eating quite a lot of bread/carbs, oh and the drinks too, but wasn't that phased as I was doing the exercise to offset that all.
