Saalfelden to Marktschellenberg (Ride Day 9)

In my planning I had worked out that the day would be about 52km ... BUT before I started the day's ride I reaslised that I had neglected to look at the elevation, what was going over a full on mountain pass, which wasn't going to happen. So the day ended up being 82.59km, so one of the longer of the rides.

Me and the trusty bike

The ride was very pleasant, the first half was very foresty and I enjoyed it a lot, I only had a 1km navigation niggle but nothing major, was through a town so wasn't the same sort of bike route signage you'd see out in the open. There were a few pretty decent hills at odd stages which sucked, not that I can see those on the elevation profile/map.

I met up with a family with 2 kids who I rode with for a while, they were heading to Salzburg and I was turning off before then. My reason for going to Marktschellenberg was to visit Berchtesgaden/Eagles Nest, that didn't pan out entirely as expected but will write about that in the next day or so's post.

I will admit when I saw the one sign that said Salzburg 12km in a certain direction I was super tempted to go that way. I found my hotel (in this case was a pension) very easily and offloaded my bike and checked in and then saw what was what in the place. They had beers/radler and snacks downstairs that were on on a loyalty basis, you took one and wrote on a sheet, which did. Had a Radler (only cost €2.50) as I got there to cool down and relax with. After a short relax I head out to look round the town.

Marktschellenberg is a very small town, it didn't even have any restaurants. So ... what now for dinner? I could have taken a ride to somewhere, but that wasn't overly close. I asked the hosts and they said they could do me a meat/cheese platter for €5.50, so I went for that - was fantastic. I actually had the same thing the 2nd day and it was even bigger/better. Super pleased with the food option.

I didn't do anything in the evening except tinker online and chat to people and research my stuff for the next day. Not that there is much to do in the town anyway.
