Munich Sightseeing to Englischer Garten & Bike Test Ride

After a bit of a relax at the flat we planned to head out to test Colin's bike and go to a few beer gardens. I was feeling pretty knackered but pushed through. First thing was to check the bike geometry and saddle / handle bar height etc. Colin is a lot taller than me but we made it work. Dropped the saddle down, not even all the way and the handle bar level was fine. Didn't test out the panniers, that was for another time. ... So we headed out to drink some beer. Took a while to get used to the slightly different brakes and gears on his bike vs mine, but got familiar with those pretty quick.

We did a pleasant ride up through Englischer Garten, stopped at a few places to take photos and then at 2 different beer gardens. At the 1st there was even an eduroam wifi hotspot, which is the one that we use at the university. I actually found that quite a lot on my travels all over the place, not that I needed wifi but was nice to know it was there to save on mobile data.

We had some nibbles at the 2nd beer garden. Was live music on the go at the 2nd one as well. I had a few small heart palpitations when I had to pay for my round. But the Rand vs Euro will do that to you. I wasn't phased, it was a holiday and I was going to do what ever I wanted (obviously within reason) to have a good time.

We headed back trough Olympiapark and saw them setting up for the European Championships Munich 2022 which on their said was "The European Championships Munich 2022 went down in the history books as the biggest multi-sport event in Germany since the 1972 Olympic Games, uniting the existing European championships of nine exciting and spectacular sports under one roof". After that we headed back to the flat and think we just had something for dinner there. Had a good soothing shower and slept well that night.

The Monday was a Munich sightseeing day for me. After a nice cream cheese bagel for breakfast from Rischart I said cheers to Colin for the day and headed into town. Colin was still working from home each day, Lizelle went into the office a few days a week; but it made it easier in that I didn't need to worry/think about getting a key to use.

I had seen a lot of the sights before but was always good to see them again. "Zoombombed" the Monday 11am team meeting from Marienplatz. I didn't spend as much time at the Apple store this time, last trip in 2014 it was my main place to sync my online life/use the internet. I had seen before that the webcam at had scaffolding in front of it, so only half got the nice webcam pic that I get, this time round, I did get another but sunlight wasn't ideal, you'll see that in a post near the end of the holiday.

While in town I checked out a few car show rooms. Looked round Studio Odeonsplatz by Mercedes Benz (which was featuring The EQE), a Lucid showroom and a Cupra showroom.

I went past a few sport/bike shops to check for some odds and ends. I needed to get a small piece of sandpaper to do a slight mod to my helmet (I had superglued an area but then it was rubbing on my head when it was on), the guy at Rose Bike's gladly let me have a small piece, which sorted the niggle out perfectly. Had a good chat to him as he had cycled in Cape Town so could relate and had some pictures the same as I had on my phone, that I was showing him (eg the SA Flag frame overlooking Hout Bay). Had/made my lunch from a shop near Rose's.

After lunch headed out to the BMW Welt and checked stuff there. I wanted to maybe go back another time but never got around to that. I asked if any Factory Tour spots had opened up, the guy said may be one on the one day but I had things on until late that day so wouldn't have worked out anyway. Later on in the day headed back to Hauptbahnhof checked out a few other shops here and there and then back to the flat.
